Final Published Website
I was recruited to help Georgia Tech with a total overhaul of their Human Resources Benefits website to adhere to new accessibility design standards across campus.
As the sole UX communications manager, I managed a team across multiple disciplines:
- Leveraging the HR office for information gathering and research sessions,
- Working with other designers to map and revise the information architecture and new branding assets,
- Collaborating with developers in the IT office for developing iterations of the new website in Wordpress.
In the initial stages of research, I led a team to work with Human Resources to understand the scope of the project, gather inspiration, and plan the design process.
DEPARTMENT RESEARCH
We reached out to the HR department to go over the currrent website, identify pain points, and discover new sections to add.
COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
We sought out similar university websites for inspiration, citing clean, simple navigation, color coded pages, and accessibility.
INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
Using our insights, we also mapped the current state of the HR website to present to our stakeholders to identify areas to condense and simplify.
My team evolved the information architecture with Human Resources, working so simplify existing features, minimizing navigation, and promoting new sections, such as a new Engage section for employee opportunities to get involved on campus.
The architecture changed multiple times over the course of the design process based on department feedback from HR, IT, and other designers.
Once the information architecture was finalized, my team worked to design both graphics and components to frame each page's content, first in a Figma prototype, and then in Wordpress using Georgia Tech's updated design system.
The website overhaul was universally praised by the HR department, having collaborated since the beginning. This redesign and my work is still used today on the website to empower employees and educate them on their benefits of the Georgia Tech workplace.
"Joshua is driven, diligent and talented. He's also a joy to work with. He strategically reviewed more than 200 webpages on our domain and helped us frame out a more streamlined, efficient and practical solution. In just six months, he helped shift the direction of our web presence and create a much better user experience. Joshua is a fantastic UX Designer who I highly recommend."
